How Much Wedding Cake Do I Need?

The short answer: plan for about one serving per guest, then match your guest count to the right cake size. A classic three-tier cake serves roughly 75-120 guests, while a full sheet cake serves about 90. Below is exactly how our sizes break down so you can order with confidence.

Quick answer: servings by cake size

Here's how many wedding servings each of our cake sizes provides:

6" round — 14 servings
8" round — 25 servings
10" round — 39 servings
12" round — 56 servings
14" round — 77 servings
Quarter sheet — 20 servings (cut into 2" x 2" pieces)
Half sheet — 40 servings (cut into 2" x 2" pieces)
Full sheet — 90 servings (cut into 2" x 2" pieces)

A traditional tiered wedding cake stacks rounds together — for example, a 6", 8", and 10" tier combine to serve roughly 78 guests.

How many servings should I plan per guest?

Plan for one slice per guest as your baseline. If you're also offering a groom's cake, a dessert table, or favors, you can comfortably size your main cake for about 75–80% of your guest count — not everyone takes a full slice of the main cake when there are other sweets around.

Do I need a fully tiered cake, or will sheet cakes work?

Both. A popular way to save without sacrificing the moment: display a beautiful smaller tiered cake for your cutting photos, and have matching sheet cakes plated from the kitchen to serve the room. Your guests get the same Edgar's cake and flavor, and you get the showpiece for a lower total cost.
